The grooves of piston rings are used for more than just supporting the rings. They impact combustion sealing, oil control, friction, and a variety of other engine characteristics. The piston ring is a component that is required for an engine to function correctly. It is in between the piston and the cylinder. Piston rings serve four primary purposes: Maintain the complete airtightness between the piston and the cylinder wall. It works hard to block combustion gas from seeping into the space created between the piston and cylinder during an explosion.
